Northampton. Not a town that is often mentioned when people discuss ideal tourist destinations or places to retire. The Lift Tower and Hill Fort probably aren’t as recognisable as landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower or The Louvre. In fact, beyond The Saints, The Cobblers and The Steelbacks, people may not know much about the UK’s largest town.
So, what is so great about the town? Why would anyone choose to relocate to Northampton at all?
Excellent University and Schools
The University of Northampton has long been an excellent institution of education. For a long time, they held the crown in employability. Not only can you get excellent education and an enjoyable experience with UoN, but their after care is first rate.
Recently the University built the state-of-the-art Waterside Campus, which provides an excellent blended learning experience for many students as well the traditional vocational and academic learning.
Moreover, if you are the parent of a younger child, Northampton has a great system of primary, secondary, college and academies.
Easy commute and accessibility to London
If you need access to London, then it is a short commute from Northampton. In fact, it works out a lot cheaper to live in Northampton and commute than it does to live in the capital city.
Commuting to the city is regular and reliable. And even if you drive, then Northampton is situated on the M1.
That means, Northampton is a relatively short journey to London and Birmingham, as well as Leicester, Oxford and Cambridge. So, during the working week you are not spending a massive amount on your mortgage or rent, and are still able to make it to and from work in a reasonable time.
